This
website is intended to be a wordplay playground, a site for
smartassery, a zone for finding and contributing
thought-provoking, powerful, sassy, witty, wise, or wicked clever
words that might be used to inspire, to make a statement, to
enlighten, or simply to amuse.
The site is meant for
word-lovers and idea-lovers, particularly those with a strong sense
of humor and a social and environmental conscience. It will likely
appeal to armchair philosophers, independent thinkers, progressives,
crossword-puzzlers, writers and literati, and everyday jokesters. As
the website is developed further over time, it will feature
wordplay, aphorisms, lyrics, puns, factoids, cartoons,
and other statements and musings.
“Fair use” excerpts of copyrighted language will be
posted for viewing only. But
at a later date, the website will also serve as a “Purveyor of Fine Words” for
the distribution of original or non-copyrighted content.
Through an online store, visitors will be able to purchase
merchandise featuring their favorite word bites, designed and
produced in various media formats—both physical and
virtual/online—for very modest prices.
In the future, product offerings will include e-cards,
postcards, stickers, and magnets.
(In a later phase, the offerings might be expanded to include
t-shirts, greeting cards, temporary tattoos, buttons, audio clips,
custom signs and billboards, fortune cookie messages, etc.)
The company will work with suppliers to try to obtain
products that are manufactured in environmentally responsible ways
(e.g., recycled paper with non-toxic ink; non-toxic glues for
sticker adhesive; organic cotton or hemp t-shirts).
Ultimately, most of the
site's content will not be political in nature. However, because of the recent presidential election, the site currently includes several political statements. While the
content made available on the website will sometimes be opinionated,
it will tend to have more of a light-hearted or smart-ass tone than
a mean-spirited tone. The site is about conveying ideas; think of it
as ideacy as a counter to the idiocy that we're confronted with
every day...
Through an interactive
"Make a Statement" feature, the site also solicits
suggestions from site users for new pieces of word content that
could be added to the site. The website owners will determine which
word bites make it onto the site (and into the product offerings),
based on tone, length, originality, and other criteria. Through a
"Penny for Your Thoughts" feature, site users will
periodically be able to vote on the selected nominations, and the
winning sayings (if original or non-copyrighted) will be printed up
on merchandise. Winning contributors will be rewarded with a set of
product offerings featuring their sayings.
